Responsible Leadership for Chaska's Future
There is a better path to Chaska’s success.
Vote November 5, 2024
Elect George Glaros ★ Mayor of Chaska
Who is George Glaros?
A 16-year resident of Chaska, I am a corporate executive, former small business owner, college professor, husband, and father. I have observed a gradual decline in business and residential growth in Chaska and feel that the City Council has been unresponsive. The City’s current solutions include higher taxes, additional fees, and proposed long-term bonding bills.
I believe there is a better path to Chaska’s success, including developing new revenue streams to reduce taxes, creating a visionary long-term plan for sustainability, and establishing a transparent government accountable to all city residents.
Chaska's Future Must Be The Priority!
Vision
I believe Chaska should reflect the history and value of its citizens, while positioning the city to become forward-thinking and move into the coming decades as a strong, sustainable, and economically viable community which serves all of its constituents – a government of, for, and by its people.
Why I'm Running
The Mayor is the chief steward of the community. A city’s mayor has the opportunity to directly impact people’s lives by improving services, infrastructure, and quality of life. I believe I can serve the people of our community as a positive catalyst helping to transform Chaska’s future. Our residents deserve a sound and sustainable long-range plan that controls taxes, increases revenues, and creates a transparent government.
My Priorities
- Focus on a revised city long-term plan.
Currently, Chaska has a 700+ page “Vision 2040” plan that provides little, if any, direction, lacks clear, measurable, and achievable goals – and has no executable strategies and tactics for moving forward. This plan MUST be updated and revised annually in order to meet the changing priorities of our citizens.
- Focus on building existing and new revenue for the city treasury.
We already know how to generate energy for resale – and do it successfully. We merely need to do more of it – and make sure we are using those funds to pay for that expansion, lower costs to citizens and businesses, and provide incentives to stay and locate in Chaska.
- Slow the rate of government spending and taxation.
The types of tax increases seen and planned for next year would be considered unthinkable in any business or household without significant revenue increases. We must start applying common-sense discipline to our revenue, budgeting, and spending programs. And these types of tax increases hurt fixed and lower-income citizens THE MOST!
- Spearhead commercial growth.
Chaska must focus on providing economic incentives to attract and retain new commercial businesses. To increase the tax base, the city will need to remove unnecessary restrictions and provide novel incentives.
- Provide sensible support for all socioeconomic groups.
Adding more housing without providing a path to transition is a recipe for disaster. The city must take the initiative to capture and organize all available resources to assist in treatment, training, and mainstream transition for at-risk citizens.
- Being transparent to our citizens.
Our city government must work harder at gaining input from our citizens and opening our doors to them across a wide variety of platforms, including town hall meetings, electronic mediums, and special project engagement, to foster truth and trust in government.
- Inclusion for all of Chaska.
Inclusion is about more than meeting the needs of all races and backgrounds; it requires building a city government that will sustain freedom, fiscal opportunity, and equal opportunity for all.
